Vision Therapy 101 with Jessica Stevenson, COVT, and James A. Smith COVT

The goal of this two day course is that you will gain a better understanding of the visual system and how to work with it, as you gain proficiency working with the tools of vision therapy. In addition to procedural knowledge, you will learn how to develop and modify vision therapy procedures to accommodate their patients' level of ability. Entry level therapists will benefit from this course as a way to introduce them into the world of optometry, but more experienced therapists will also benefit as they will be able to develop deeper understanding and knowledge in their craft and take the first steps towards certification. You may enter as "technicians" but will leave as vision "therapists" as we spend marked time exploring "the why" and not just "the how". The areas of study will include (but are not limited to): ocular anatomy, sensory process, lenses, prisms, filters, degrees of fusion, binocular dysfunction, visual processing as well as strategies for handling challenging populations. We cover all of these issues while constantly referring each of them back to one of the key elements of our trade: Skeffington Circles. Participants will leave this two-day course with hands on knowledge of how they can better work with their patients immediately as well as deeper insights of the power of the visual system.

The Balancing Act: Neurology to Function, Diagnosis, Pathology, and Therapy with Jason Clopton, OD, FCOVD

This two day course looks at the visual/vestibular system from sub-cortical to cortical functioning. You will look at development, action, and pathologies and how they apply to our patient diagnosis and treatment therapy. You will cover duality of all sensory systems and how the vestibular system can affect vision, reflexes, strabismus, nystagmus, and other sensory systems. Better diagnosis for better prognosis helps our patients and our outcomes.
